Nutrition is the 1st Step Everyday…towards

by admin in Health, Nutrition

Good afternoon everyone just stopped by Cava Greens and had a great lunch. Patrick the owner and I always have a good conversation about how things are going with each of our businesses. A few things we discussed starting with how each day everyone may not get their fitness in. Yet, the one thing we all must do is make choices of what we eat to fuel our human machine. So with that is why the title is what it is, the one thing you must do each day is eat(unless your cleansing or fasting). Therefore, if you must do it everyday preferrably multiple times why not put the best fuel possible in the engine? One way to put the best fuel is to consider organic over conventional foods. Research out there varies depending on who you ask or should I say who they are associated with when discussing Organic vs. Conventional with ex’s such  nutrition4health, medicalnewstoday , organictradeorganization are a few that discuss some great benefits. Versus our good old American Dietetic Association as you can read state no difference. Ok?  Who to believe then? I hope you agree that common sense tells us that organic has many more benefits than conventional. Having a B.S. in Food Science I have seen the quote conventional side and it has given us large quantities of food at a cheap price. But, there is a quality cost alot of times associated with mass production and you can read about some of  those in the above first 3 articles.

Maybe you cannot get to Organic all the time everyday..of course not in this world…so do the best you can while out there. Choosing live colorful foods is a great little habit to begin with everday.  Yet, you can control what you put in your own refrigerator and kitchen cabinets when it comes to Organic vs. Conventional.

I believe therefore and speak to the fact that you can eat less organic food and get the same full sensation as well as your body feeling it has what it needs. So those of you fighting say weight think about it if you eat organic you will eat less calories and get the same or more nutrition.

Wherever you get your food please again realize that it is your 1st Step Everyday towards good health. So make it a healthy habit to choose your food sources wisely. Also, check out Cava Greens as one of your excellent sources here in Denver.

5 Things You Need to Know About Effective Habit Change

by admin in Health

Dr. Poindexter Comments: I really like the article and especially #1 and #5. It is about incremental small steps and redundancy if success is to be achieved in adding in new positive habits. I say adding new positive habits because that is where I focus my energy with helping people. It is not always about removing bad habits, sometimes if we focus on bringing positive new habits into our lives you will feel the desire to just let those go. That makes for a much more pleasant life experience while dealing with the changes we all continue to work on throughout our lives. Enjoy

Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Ian Newby-Clark, an associate professor of psychology at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada who studies habit change.

As a psychology professor who has studied habit change for several years, I have some advice about effective habit change. My advice is general. It applies to any habit that you would like to change. My advice is based on my research and that of my colleagues.

Lose Weight the Healthy, Lasting Way

by Dr. Scott W. Poindexter in Nutrition

Dr. Poindexter comments:
“This has some very good points to take into consideration such as the highlighted comment:-the key is always whether you’re eating and drinking fewer calories than you are burning. Yet, it should be made clear that while this is true, cutting calories is not always the best approach. It should be a balance between good quantities of healthy food (you can eat more of) and increased movement in your life. Just saying to burn more calories than you consume leads many people to cut out good foods, and not really increase the movement side enough. Realize that you can eat a lot more of live foods that do have calories than poor/dead foods. Example: (1) 6 oz. candy bar has the same calories of a LOT of fresh fruit/veggies. Cut the bad stuff, add the good stuff!”

Lose Weight the Healthy, Lasting Way

The New Year can always be marked by the huge spike in gym memberships and diet programs after the holidays.

For many people, this time of year is a time for change, and often people want to change how they look and feel by losing weight. If this sounds like you, then now’s the time to get clear on exactly how a person goes about losing weight so you don’t find yourself making the same resolution year after year.

The Fountain of Youth

by Dr. Scott W. Poindexter in Nutrition

An article on Jack La Lanne (currently 93 years young) that I recently read, I feel has some great bits of information.

*Jack La Lanne comments:

# Dr. Poindexter comments:

*Exercise is king, Nutrition is Queen, put them together you have a kingdom.

#My thoughts on this are they are both of pretty equal value and I believe that is his point. One can not stand alone without the other for very long before problems will arise. For example, we need good nutrition to fuel our bodies to even perform bodily movements optimally. And, on the other hand, great nutrition without moving the body will still lead to an unhealthy body and heart weakness. The heart is mostly muscle and nerve tissue so it needs its fair share to be strong.
